Vines make history

The Santerhof looks back on a history stretching back centuries.
The estate was first mentioned in historical records as early as 1541.
Winegrowing has been practised for generations in the idyllic village of Mühlbach in South Tyrol. This is evidenced by the historic dry stone walls, terraces and old vines on the sun-drenched slopes.

Organic by conviction

Having received official certification as an organic farm in 1991, the Santer Organic Winery in Mühlbach, South Tyrol, is one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the region.
Even back then, we made a conscious commitment to treating nature and resources in a responsible and forward-looking manner.
For us, sustainability is not just a concept, but an attitude we put into practice in our daily work.

In harmony with the soil, animals and the environment, we focus on natural cycles, gentle cultivation and the highest quality – out of conviction, out of respect for nature and for future generations.
This results in characterful organic wines from South Tyrol that tangibly reflect their origin, craftsmanship and nature in every glass.

Breaking new ground with PIWI

An exciting new chapter is beginning at the Santer organic winery: the first PIWI grape varieties are being planted.
PIWI stands for fungus-resistant vines, which produce grapes of the highest quality without the use of chemical pesticides.
These robust varieties enable sustainable viticulture in harmony with nature.
With great care and conviction, we are committed to innovation and quality in order to produce wines with distinctive character whilst ensuring sustainable agriculture.

Old house – new lease of life

In 1996, the Santer organic winery underwent extensive renovation and was adapted to meet the requirements of modern viticulture.
Despite the modernisation, the unique charm of the Santerhof, which is over 500 years old, has been preserved: historic walls, traditional beams and the original character of the building have been lovingly retained.

Today, our winery harmoniously combines tradition with contemporary comfort. A historic ambience meets modern facilities – perfect for anyone wishing to experience organic viticulture with a sense of history and sustainability.
The renovation not only demonstrates our respect for the history of the Santerhof, but also marks a clear step towards a sustainable future.

Precision & Passion

In 2013, a new winery was built at the Santer organic vineyard, enabling the gentle processing of the grapes and precise winemaking. Here, traditional craftsmanship is combined with state-of-the-art winery technology to unlock the full potential of every grape and produce characterful organic wines from South Tyrol.

For us, the winery is more than just a place of production. It is an expression of our passion for sustainable organic viticulture. Every stage of the winemaking process, from ageing and storage to bottling, is carried out with the utmost care, ensuring that the natural quality and terroir remain evident.

In this way, tradition, innovation and sustainability come together in our new wine cellar to create wines that bring history, nature and craftsmanship to life in every glass.

Caught off guard by fate

The fire in January 2024 was a profound turning point in our history and presented us with major personal and financial challenges.
In the blink of an eye, much of what had been built up over the years was destroyed by the fire.

During this difficult time, we received overwhelming support. Our sincere thanks go to everyone who stood by us with energy, confidence and solidarity – whether through hands-on help, words of encouragement or valuable support behind the scenes.

This solidarity not only gave us strength, but also showed us how important community is. It strengthened our resolve to continue on our path at the Santer Organic Winery with passion, responsibility and confidence in the future.

The courage to make a new start

Following the devastating fire, the organic winery was rebuilt from the ground up with great care, craftsmanship and attention to detail. We placed great emphasis on sustainable construction and the responsible use of resources. Two buildings were constructed entirely from our own timber, giving them a warm, authentic feel and a unique character.

Today, the Santer organic winery combines tradition, sustainability and modern living in harmony with nature – offering guests and visitors a unique experience in Mühlbach, South Tyrol.
